Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Michigan honey special?
Michigan’s diverse wildflowers and trees create a distinctive nectar source for our bees, resulting in honey with exceptional flavor and quality. Our raw, unfiltered honey captures these natural elements, offering a taste of Michigan’s pristine landscapes in every jar.
How should I store raw honey?
Store your raw honey in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, ideally at room temperature (60–75°F). Keep the container tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption. Unlike processed honey, our raw honey may crystallize naturally, which is a sign of its purity and does not affect its quality.
What kind of honey is this?
We consider all of our honey wildflower honey since bees forge miles in every direction of the hive and they collect honey from a variety of floral. Typically in Michigan your honey is a mixture of Basswood, Apple Blossom, Clover and Star Thistle amongst many other wildflowers that bloom from spring to fall.
What is raw honey anyway?
Raw honey is honey in its most natural state, straight from the hive. We never flash heat, filter, or process our Premium Raw Honey, ensuring all its natural minerals, enzymes, and nutritional benefits remain intact. By choosing our honey, you enjoy pure, unadulterated goodness with all the health benefits nature intended.
Can raw honey help with allergies?
Some studies suggest that consuming a teaspoon of raw, local honey from bees daily may help alleviate seasonal allergies for certain individuals. We invite you to browse online articles and studies to learn more about raw honey’s benefits.
My honey turned cloudy and hardened. Has it gone bad?
No, your honey hasn’t spoiled! The cloudiness is due to natural sugar crystallization, a common process in raw honey. To restore its smooth texture, gently warm the bottle in a container of hot tap water until the crystals dissolve. Avoid microwaving, as it may affect the honey’s quality.
What is that sticker on the bottom of my jar of honey? Is that an expiration date?
That is a lot code that we apply to all our products. If you ever had a question about your particular bottle of honey, we can look at what specific yard that honey came from and help answer any questions you might have.
I noticed some white foam at the top of my honey bottle when I first opened it, is this normal?
Yes, this is perfectly normal! The white foam is a natural result of bottling raw, unfiltered honey and consists of wax particles and air bubbles. Unlike heavily processed honey, which is often flash heated and filtered for clarity, our raw honey retains these natural elements, preserving its health benefits and authentic flavor.
Is raw honey safe to eat?
Absolutely! Raw honey is as close to its natural hive state as you can get, making it a wholesome, safe choice. The term "raw" simply means it’s unprocessed and packed with natural goodness. However, like all honey, it should not be given to children under one year of age.
Why does the flavor of your honey vary?
The flavor of our raw honey reflects the seasonal blooms our bees visit, from the light, floral notes of spring clover to the robust, golden hues of late-summer wildflowers. Honey can vary from yard to yard and even from hive to hive. This natural variation is what makes each batch of our Michigan honey unique and tied to the land.
